Description
American Pool Table An American pool table, commonly referred to as an "Americanka" in some countries, is designed specifically for the game of American pool. Compared to Russian billiard tables, pool tables are more compact, with sizes ranging from 6 to 9 feet, where the 9-foot table is the official tournament standard. For professional training and competitive play, a tournament-size table is the best choice. However, if you are purchasing a table for home entertainment or recreational use, a 7- or 8-foot pool table is usually the most practical option. Unlike Russian billiard tables, American pool tables feature wider pockets—approximately 115 mm wide for balls measuring 57 mm in diameter. Pool tables are also covered with a denser and thicker billiard cloth, designed to provide greater durability and faster ball movement. Pool is played with a shorter cue than Russian billiards, allowing the game to be played in a smaller room with less clearance around the table. A 9-foot tournament-size pool table requires a minimum free playing area of 5.6 × 4.3 meters. Pool Table Sizes Pool tables are smaller than tables used for Russian Pyramid. Official competitions are played on 9-foot tables, while 6-, 7-, and 8-foot models are commonly installed in homes, cafés, bars, restaurants, and other recreational venues. The primary factor when choosing a pool table is the size of the room where it will be installed.
